...Happy Halloweeeeen!

I LOVE halloween SO much on this little street we live on.
And nothing expresses that love more than excessive CAPS LOCK usage.
AND exclamation marks for added emphasis!
Oh, yeah. I did it. I even threw in an underline....
I'm excited. :)

There's a hundred mini skeletons / witches / mummies / devils / grim reapers / pumpkins and little ghosties running up and down the street, clutching their little buckets heaving with sweeties, and some are so teeny tiny that they struggle to climb the steps to the front door, and reach the bell.
We, here at chez Reid, whole-heartedly embrace the cute halloween-ness. My two are big fans.

"This is THE BEST DAY EVER! All YEEAAR!!"
...."Except maybe...Christmas" says Dylan.

We're all looking very serious in these photos..but that's just because we want to look big and scary.
That, and we didn't want to crack our face paint.

Mama got her zombie on tonight too.
Wish I'd gone to parents evening like this. :)

...Pumpkin.

I went to a 40th birthday party last night and am horribly hungover today and suffering for my art. (!)
This pumpkin is pretty much the only productive thing i have done for the entire day.... :)
And I bludgeoned my own hand doing it...

This is the jumper that Boo Reid is rocking today.
He thinks it makes him look like a rockstar punk.
And anything that makes you feel like a rockstar punk has GOT to be worth a wear. :)

...Cartoon Strip.

Dylan's been beavering away on this (masterpiece of a) comic strip today, and it was pretty much the best thing I saw all day, so it was a definite 365.
Better than any cartoons I'VE seen in the paper...

Just sayin'.
:)

 ....Woods.

Dylan has been desperate to take his little remote control helicopter to a big wide open space for a test run, and I was looking after five (count em..5!)  kiddywinks plus my two today, so I took them all to the nature reserve in their wellies for a good ol' run around.
We found a secret hide out, saw some horses, collected (more) conkers, took the helicopter for a spin, climbed trees and ran around like little lunatics.
Today reminded me of the Sound Of Music, The part where the Von Trapp kids are hanging from the trees when the Captain drives past?

Sadly they weren't wearing play clothes made from curtains....and I restrained myself from launching into song on a hill...
Can't have it all! :)

 ....Conkers

Granny has a horse chesnut tree hanging over into her garden, which means that two little boys happily spend an hour filling up their bags with oooh, 115 million conkers? when we go over.
Granny also cooks the most delicious pies in the world. Fact.
Today, We mostly collected conkers....
...and ate delicious pies.

Thanks granny. :)

...Custard Cream
So today, I have the day to myself.
It's freezing outside, and all I want to do, is curl up with my book, a cuppa, and a little stack of these badboys. (I never said I was rock n roll..)
Here's to you custard cream. With your elaborate baroque design, and your custard fondant centre.
And here's to days when you get to stay in the warm, and be lazy.
I just ate four...

..And oh my, are you in for a treat. Yes. Yes, you are.
I found these lovely custard cream cushions while I was at it, (which should live on my sofa) and THIS giant custard cream on Pimp that Snack while I was at it.
My work here is done. :)

 ..Record Player Clock.

I made this record player clock after buying a vintage portable record player for a billy bargain price on ebay.
My friend Miranda came over for a cuppa one morning a while ago, and found me surrounded by bits of record player guts and tools in the kitchen, so rolled her sleeves up and got stuck in, helping me demolish the insides of the record player, and even brandishing a hacksaw in the name of retro chic.
That's friendship. ; )
And that, my friends, is how you make a record player clock. With Tea. And a Hacksaw.

(Fact Fans. The record on the player is John Lennon, Imagine, as that's what was playing when Dylan Alfie came into the world and I love it.)

The littlest graffiti artist... (Personal)

So..I think we established that's there's been a distinct lack of The Stu around these parts this weekend.
And we missed him.
A lot.

So when he rang to say he was on his way home from the station, Boo, Dylan and I thought we'd go and meet him at the bus and surprise him by jumping out and shouting "WELCOME HOMMMMMME!!" when he hopped off the bus. (As you do)
Dylan went one step better than Plan A though, with this little genius idea...Gorgeousness that he is, he wanted to write a welcome home message in chalk on the pavement at the bus stop.
Plan B rocks. :)

People looked at us like we were mentalists, and I got some "Really?" eyes, and  some "What sort of parent'?? tsks, but I like to think that those people were only mildly jealous that they never had a welcome home message written at a bus stop for them.

...Miss You. Miss your Face. :(

The Beautiful Hairy Man is away this weekend in Cardiff, and I miss his face around here.
Everything's more fun with the Stu around.
Even the not-so-fun stuff is fun. That's quite a talent for a person to have, no?

 ...Disco Hair

Today at bath-time I popped out of the bathroom for a minute to get clean pyjama's for the boys, and could hear Dylan in hysterics.
"You look like a disco man in a nightclub Boo!" said Dylan, cracking up.
I grabbed my camera, knowing I was in for a treat, and returned, PJ's in hand, just in time to see Boo busting some moves in the bath with an afro made of bubbles on his head, and singing a song that went something like this
"Oh yeah...I'm a disco man...I got the moves....ooooh yeah, uh huh....."

And here's what else happened today...(Personal)

Boo Reid got his first reading book with actual words today.
Then proceeded to READ it.
He is a genius.
And I'm okay with that :)

...My Favourite Book.

My mums school copy of To Kill a Mockingbird is definitely right up there on my "what-would-you-save-from-a-burning building' list.
It's almost certainly the best book ever written, and having my mums school notes handwritten in the margins just makes it all the better. I must've read it a hundred times.
It's like a big ol familiar hug and never fails to restore my faith in human beings..

Thanks maman, for introducing me to Atticus Finch, Scout,  Jem,  Dill, and Mr Boo Radly.
I'm very glad I met them. :)

...Typewriter.

This is the typewriter that lives in my bedroom.
Bought from the bay of e for my wedding last year, and straight from the 1920's.
I always like to imagine that a very important person wrote something especially important on it a long long time ago.
But if they just wrote their shopping lists on it, that's fine too..

...Comedy 'Tache

Dylan went to a party and got some spectacularly cool 'finger moustache'/ fingerstache tattoos.
He kindly gave some to his mama, and...
...I think I need to make these bad boys permanent.

Although I don't look it in this picture. I am unbelievably happy. :)

...Teapot.

Anyone who knows me can tell you, I'm just a big ol' Tea-bag.
I love a cuppa. The kettle has always just boiled in my house, and my kitchen often has lovely friends sitting in it perched on stools, tea in hand.

Many of life's problems can be solved over a cuppa.
Fact.
And if the kitchen walls could talk, they would concur.

Some of the things that make me happy around Chez Reid lately...

 1. Our New home for sunglasses and geek glasses alike.

Sunday

Something beginning with L...

A day of gorgeousness together today, taking the small people to their "favourite and their bestest"place, The science museum, and then to Kensington Gardens.

We travelled the underground, lazed in the sun, pretended to be pirates in the Diana memorial Playground , posed in telephone boxes, paid homage to The Beatles and watched the ducks and the swans.
We danced in trippy little booths and shouted down echo tubes (in the name of science), drank milkshakes with maltesers, jaffa cakes and mint aero in them, ate pizza and pasta, made wishes at the fairy tree, walked for miles, and went bus hopping.

A happy day.
(And we're not going to talk about people who come into restaurants and steal peoples iphones while they're eating with their families because they won't ruin this day. They're not allowed.)
